2 2-Dibromo-2-Cyanoacetamide DBNPA 99%
2,2-Dibromo-2-cyanoacetamide (DBNPA) is a broad-spectrum, highly efficient organic compound with significant applications in industrial and specialized fields. The following is a detailed introduction to it:
Basic Information
Name: 2,2-Dibromo-2-cyanoacetamide, also known as Dibromo-cyanoacetamide (DBNPA), 2,2-Dibromo-3-cyanoacetamide, etc.
CAS Number: 10222-01-2
Molecular Formula: C₃H₂Br₂N₂O
Molecular Weight: 241.87
Appearance: White crystalline powder with a musty, pungent odor.
Physical and Chemical Properties
*Solubility: Soluble in organic solvents such as acetone, polyethylene glycol, benzene, and ethanol; slightly soluble in water (at 25°C, 100 grams of water can dissolve 1.5 grams of DBNPA).
*Stability: Its aqueous solution is relatively stable under acidic conditions but decomposes easily under alkaline conditions. When the pH increases from 6.7 to 9.7, its half-life decreases from 37 hours to 0.11 hours.
*Reactivity: Under the action of the reducing agent hydrogen sulfide, DBNPA readily loses bromine to form the non-toxic cyanic acid amine.
DBNPA Basic Information
DBNPA Application
1. Industrial Biocides:
*DBNPA is a broad-spectrum, highly effective industrial biocide used to prevent the growth and reproduction of bacteria and algae in paper manufacturing, industrial circulating cooling water, metalworking lubricants, pulp, wood, coatings, and plywood.
*It rapidly penetrates the cell membranes of microorganisms and acts on specific protein groups, interrupting normal oxidative-reductive processes and causing cell death. Additionally, its branches can selectively brominate or oxidize specific enzymatic metabolites of microorganisms, ultimately leading to their demise.
*DBNPA has excellent stripping performance, produces no foam during use, and is fully miscible with water in any ratio. It is low-toxicity. Using a 15ppm 20% DBNPA solution achieves excellent results, not only controlling microorganisms but also stripping away the sludge clumps that previously clogged the fill material, thereby restoring the cooling tower’s evaporation efficiency.
2. Food Industry:
DBNPA can be used for disinfecting food containers, with a recommended dosage of 4000 ppm and a contact time of 60 minutes. Food processing containers must be thoroughly cleaned daily or after each batch before disinfection with DBNPA solution.
3. Other Applications:
DBNPA can also be used as a bacterial contamination control agent in ethanol fermentation, a preservative in animal adhesives and latex paints, and a component in agricultural pesticides.
